Decorating Your Kitchen Shabby Chic Style
Giving your kitchen a shabby chic flair
is so easy to accomplish! As far as your working appliances go, like your stovetop, oven and fridge, stick with newer versions of these. Unless you can find great
retro style reproductions
of these items.
But you can go wild with your accessories! Do you have old appliances or gadgets of your mother's or grandmother's stuffed in a box in the attic? An old mixer or old Tupperware pieces? Get them out! These items are perfect to decorate with!
Collect a grouping of old whisks, grinders and other gadgets from days past.
Create a wall scene of your own with vintage wire baskets or shelves. Hang a collection of old cast iron cookware or cornbread molds. Vintage accessories are also very easy to find and very affordable. Any flea market or antique store will have plenty to choose from.
Try putting unique knobs on your cabinets. The knobs on my cabinets are all different, some are old, some are newer reproductions. They add a vintage charm to otherwise plain jane cabinet pulls found in a home store.
Use interesting and unique
vintage or new fabric pieces
to frame your
windows.
The shabby chic possibilities are truly endless in the kitchen! There are so many unique pieces to choose from that are still in great working condition, easy to find and quite affordable.
If you have space above you cabinets toward the ceiling, display a collection of vintage tins, jars and vases. These items are pretty much one of a kind nowadays and will create great conversation pieces for your guests.
I recommend this unique book which illustrates everything culinary that is fun to hunt and will give your kitchen a retro charm. And another book which includes detailed information of the art and delicacy of vintage kitchen towels. If you are a collector of vintage fabrics or textiles, then you will find this book invaluable. The photography and explanations of these beautiful vintage kitchen towels is amazing!
