How I Began Writing
this Wonderful Website...

My name is Mandie and I make a living writing about what I love...the Shabby Chic style of Home Decorating. I am from North Louisiana (or Looooziana as the locals call it) but I now hang my hat in the great state of Texas.

I also have the cutest little boy who is just starting Kindergarten this year. I think the decorating thing has rubbed off on him a bit because he can't stand the red pillow not being on the red chair on the patio. He says, "Can't you see mommy, it matches!"

I wake up in the morning when I want to and I work when I want to, which is alot because I really love what I do. I do not answer to a boss that is less educated than me and I do not supress what I know is the ethically right thing to do in fear of losing my job. I go to my son's school functions when he has them and I do not have to ask someone else's permission to do so.

But it has not always been this way, so here in lies my story...

Only months after graduating from high school, I went to work for Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. For four years, taking a college course here and there, I lived the magical fairy tale life portraying Mary Poppins. Life really was "practically perfect in every way" except for one thing...I was broke.

So, four long years later I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Dental Hygiene. A skill that came very natural to me both clinically and socially. I loved meeting new people and educating them on the importance of meticulous oral hygiene. But unfortunately, not all dental professionals practice in the same manner.

Before being granted a license to practice dentistry in any state, you must take an oath to provide the best possible care to patients and recommend the best possible treatment options. Unfortunately, I have found this not to be the primary goal of the majority of dental practices in this country.

As times get tougher, the "little guys" just can't compete with the freebies that the larger corporate run dental offices provide to patients and the takeover snowballs. Leaving the handful of ethical healthcare providers no other choice but to explore other career avenues or bite the bullet and work for them. And as a result, leaving patients just like you seeking honest dental care but with no option but to conform.

So, for ten years, I worked at the 8 to 5 pace as I'm sure that you have had plenty of experience yourself. Day in, day out. Weeks turning into months, months turning into years. Knowing that there just has to be something better out there for me.

Finally, I decided that enough was enough.

I wanted a job that would make ME happy and make ME feel like I was sincerely making a difference and helping people at the end of the day. I wanted a job that I could go on vacation when I wanted to, for as long as I wanted to and not be penalized for it or even worse, replaced when I returned to work. I wanted a job that not only pays the bills but leaves plenty leftover to fund my son's college tuition and my retirement. And most importantly, I wanted a job that allowed me the time and freedom to enjoy and participate in every minute of my little boy's life.

The Solution...

Make a living doing what you love! You can do it, as I am doing it now.

What is it that truly makes you happy? What do you love to talk about? What is it that your friends tell you that you are great at? What is your

PASSION?

Then write about it! Your talents are God-given gifts and they are meant to be shared with others. That is what makes the Internet such an invaluable tool, if used appropriately. About the time that I was discovering this for myself, is when I stumbled across SBI!
